How to Create a Vision Board

*Vision Boards* Okay, so this isn’t a new concept. But if you’re anything like me then it’s been quite some time since you made your last mood or vision board. I’ll show you how to create a vision board in just a few easy steps. Then you’ll be ready to get to work on your goals.

Plan With Purpose

Before I get to the “how”, let’s get into the “why” and the “what”.

Have you ever worked really hard on something? Spent countless days and nights ideating, planning, and producing. But after all of your effort, you just weren’t pleased with the outcome. Not because you didn’t do a good job, but because you weren’t 100% clear on why you wanted to do this task in the first place. So seeing where you fell short, or could have done more is overwhelmingly easy.

A vision board is useless without a purpose. I created my vision board to help keep me grounded and focused for the next year, to use as a reminder of what I want to feel, and to guide me on those days when I’m feeling down, or unproductive. Because as we saw from 2020 (and the first week of 2021) literally anything can happen and so much of what I need to get through it all is within my mind.

So whether you’re manifesting for your business, your healing, or something else, you can’t attract it without defining what you want and knowing why you want it.

This was also in “The Real Stuff” section of my 30 before 30 bucket list too.

The Process

Now that you know more about the “what” and the “why” behind your vision board process, we can get into the simple 4-step process I followed to create my vision board for 2021.

How to create a vision board in 4-steps:

  1. Prep Your Space
  2. Plan With Purpose
  3. Pick Your Medium
  4. Put It Together

Prep Your Space

Set yourself up for success before you even start. Cleanse the air, clear those papers from your desk, fold your laundry, make your bed. Free your space from all distractions that may pull your attention away from manifesting your goals.

Plan With Purpose

Your space is ready, now it’s time to get your mind right. Narrow in on what you’d like to manifest and why. It may be helpful to use some guiding questions or refer to some of your favorite gurus for . To get me started, I asked myself:

  • How do I want to feel?
  • What do I want to experience?
  • Who do I want to be?

I dissected my answers to these answers until I was able to solidify a list of answers that I strongly connected with. I wrote all my answers down in a journal to refer to later when choosing my images.

Pick Your Medium

Just like leaving your running shoes at the foot of your bed cues you for your morning run, creating a vision board can help remind you of your goals and pump up your motivation. If you’re feeling fancy you can create one by taking screen shots in your phone and editing your collage in an app like Canva or PicsArts. Then you can use your vision board as your background or screensaver. But if arts and crafts are more your speed, you can simply gather some magazines or news paper, scissors, and glue; and design your vision board the the old-fashioned way. Then display it somewhere you see regularly. I chose the latter.

Put It Together

Now you’re ready for the best part! Time to bring your vision to life. Gather your materials and get to work. Set the vibes by turning on whatever music gets you in the zone. I opted for the For Us By Us Sounds in Rewind playlist. Take your time. Make sure all your ideas have a home and devote your full attention to the things you want most.

And that’s it!

You’re ready to tackle whatever comes next.

Check out this video for a more visual experience of the process (starts at 4:45).

xoxo,
